Princess Margaret Rose of York , 1930-2002.

Princess Margaret Rose was the younger sister of Queen Elizabeth, daughter of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother. She was born into a life of extreme privilege but yet into a loving and kind family. Her early years were spent in the company of her Mother, Father and older sister the future Queen. Her father Prince Albert, Duke of York was second in line for the throne but had no aspirations to be King. Her life changed dramatically in 1936 when her Uncle, King Edward VIII, abdicated to marry Wallis Simpson. Margaret’s Father reluctantly became King George VI and her old sister Elizabeth was second in line for the throne. In 1952 King George VI died suddenly and Elizabeth ascended to the throne.

Margaret was grief stricken by the death of her father and wrote “He was such a wonderful person, the very heart and center of our happy family.”

May the Month of Mary

Mary we crown thee with blossoms today! Queen of the Angels and Queen of the May. Mary we crown thee with blossoms today, Queen of the Angels and Queen of the May

My first experience with a May Crowning was when my son was in kindergarten, he was chosen amongst his classmates to carry to the altar, the crown that would adorn the Blessed Virgin Mary statue. He was adorable, decked out in his miniature suit, his face beaming, and I remember the moment just like it was yesterday! The service was beautiful, the altar decorated like a lovely flower garden. In retrospect, it was that event that introduced me to the wonderful and varied collectibles that venerate the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Jesus.

Tips for Designing A Great Shop Logo

One of the most important decisions you will make as a business owner is the design of your shop logo. It communicates who you are and what you do as a business in a visual format. It is the first impression visitors get when entering your shop for the first time and will often determine if they will stay or leave.

GOING GREEN

My husband and I had a lovely home in a suburb which boasted lovely trees and gardens. One day while observing the garden, we realized that we didn't have many birds and our neighbors seemed to be teeming with bird life. I decided there and then to go off to buy a bird bath which we duly put in the center of our lawn. We had a little stray cat that a friend had given us and much to our dismay, this animal proceeded to take out any brave bird that tried to settle on our bird bath. This was all too traumatic for us and our small children, so the cat was given back to the friend and I realized that some research was necessary. We joined our local Wildlife Society and received their monthly news letter informing us of all things wild. First lesson was the bird baths needed to be put in an area which affords them some protection(i.e. the bird bath needs some shrubbery around it) And, the second lesson was to plant native trees and plants, that belong in the area, which the birds and insects feed on

"Remake This Room on Ruby Lane" - High Gloss Library

Designer Todd Klein used high gloss paint colors in this New York apartment. The library's high-gloss brown walls play up the grid pattern of the bookshelves, derived from a design by architect Hugh Newell Jacobsen. Pillows in Ixtapa by Jacques Bouvet et Cie make a handsome, well-worn chesterfield sofa look even more comfortable and inviting. Read More, here.

Monet Jewelry - Classic Jewelry Then and Now

There is some disagreement about when the company Monet actually began. Dates from 1927 to 1937 are listed in the various reference books, most likely because of the shift of focus of the early days of the company. The company was started when two young brothers, Michael and Jay Chernow decided to go into business together. The company was founded in Providence, Rhode Island. The first name of the company was Monocraft and their first designs were monograms for fashionable handbags. Later, in 1937, they began the manufacture of jewelry and the name of the company was changed to Monet.

Rinker's Opinion - Will It Increase In Value?

No one in the antiques and collectibles trade has a crystal ball. If a person tells you he/she does, he/she is lying. Even I am wrong on occasion when I project the long-term collectability and/or value of a collecting category.

It is safer to invest in the stock market than in antiques and collectibles. The antiques and collectibles market is fickle, speculative, and manipulative. It takes a highly-skilled player, who knows when to get in and get out, to guarantee a sufficient return on investment.
